Embodied time – A new lens on managing time in modern work

If we get better at optimizing time, why do we feel increasingly overwhelmed by it and time more scarce than ever? How can leaders and professionals experience, organize and manage time more meaningfully in an age of constant busyness, exhaustion and distraction?

Christina Lüthy

Christina Lüthy, postdoctoral researcher and Browaldh fellow, leads the session

Christina Lüthy is a postdoctoral researcher and Browaldh Fellow at Lund University. Her research explores entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration, with particular attention to their affective and temporal dimensions. She also conducts new research on time management and the organizing of time, providing clearer insight into how the way we experience and structure time shapes how people work together and develop new ideas.

This Hot Spot explores why time management remains so difficult despite our growing repertoire of tools and techniques — and how our lived, embodied experience of time reshapes what “managing time” actually means.

Topics for exploration include:

  • How do different images of time influence how we try to use, organize and control time?
  • How does time interact with our body and emotions? Why is understanding this link so critical to maintaining well-being and meaningfullness at work?
  • How do informal environmental forces influence, support, thwart or clash with our attempts at managing time?
  • How can managers empower employees to manage their time more meaningfully?

Christina Lüthy, postdoctoral researcher and Browaldh fellow, leads the session. Drawing on her current research on temporal experiences and time pressure in collaborative work and practical examples this session will invite reflection and exchange on what makes time management so complex in and and offers ways of understanding time that open the door to more grounded, sustainable, and meaningful ways of working.
