Module 1: Leadership

In the first module we establish the group, start building relations and create a dynamic learning climate for the program. We will also focus on you as an impact-leader through self-awareness as well as the fundamentals of building trusting and collaborative relationships. We will start framing and designing the first sprint for your impact challenge. During the process you will be equipped with practical methods, tools and frameworks essential for your development journey.

Thekla supports leaders, management teams, work units and organizations in developing their capacity to collaborate and navigate in complexity.

 

Nadja Sörgärde - Leading Impact modulansvarigNadja Sörgärde, Senior lecturer in Business Administration at the School of Economics and Management, Lund University. Her research focus is organizational change, culture and identity, and she has studied leadership and change processes in the private as well as the third sector.

 


Module 2: Leadership

Taking the lead

There are no simple recipes on how to understand or practice leadership. Following this, it is crucial to be aware of and to actively work with and consider a broad variety of options. In this module you will reflect upon your own assumptions, ideals and choices. With support of two ‘theoretical maps’ (6M and 5P), we will discuss and explore a broad range of alternative routes and discuss their usefulness and advantages. Since followership is a prerequisite for leadership, we will also consider a broad variety of follower-perspectives and reflect upon our own specific situation from this view. During the module you will, together with others, explore leadership challenges you experience in your everyday work and/or in relation to your Impact Challenge. You will also get the opportunity to practice what is often referred to as ‘difficult conversations’ and the practice of coaching.

Stefan Sveningsson - Leading Impact modulansvarigStefan Sveningsson, professor in Business Administration at the School of Economics and Management, Lund University. Stefan conduct research in managerial work, leadership, organizational change and identity work. He has published numerous articles and books.

Her research focus is organizational change, culture and identity, and she has studied leadership and change processes in the private as well as the third sector.

 


Module 3: Foresight

Creating foresight

In this module we look into the world around us and how we can understand it; the models and methods that prepare us to exploit opportunities and mitigate threats. This includes business intelligence measures such as trend analysis, PESTEL frameworks, the Black Swan approach, understanding the borderland between our current industry and the society outside, as well as different scenario techniques. We look into the macro forces that impact us but that we typically can’t influence ourselves. Furthermore we also turn the perspective around to get a grasp of how we act to enable ourselves to understand the world around us: we discuss our flexibility and robustness to mitigate so-called external competitive shocks, but also the cognitive limitations we have to master, such as bias, under such circumstances.

Thomas leads several research programmes and projects in close proximity to industry on strategic change following societal shifts in relation to technology, globalization, legislation, sustainability, deregulation and more.

Major macroeconomic shifts, whether positive or negative, impact everyone. The recent pandemic is a testament to this universal influence. Currently, we are navigating through a demanding economic climate marked by escalating energy costs, increased inflation, and rising interest rates. These changes in the macroeconomic landscape affect individuals, businesses, and households alike. Yet, an in-depth understanding of the causes and effects of these shifts can significantly enhance our ability to manage them effectively. The objective of this module is to acquaint you with the essentials of macroeconomics and economic policy. The module is crafted to provide you with important analytical abilities, empowering you to make well-informed decisions in a dynamic economic environment. You will be introduced to basic yet powerful tools for analyzing and comprehending the economy. Tools that are crucial for interpreting future events and forecasting economic trends.

Fredrik is a macroeconomist, specialized in long term economic transition, who frequently appears on television, newspapers and other media.

 

 


Module 5: Strategic Analysis

Business development and a forward-looking perspective are cornerstones for successful enterprise. During this module we present and discuss tools for the analysis of the present situation. Emphasis is on strategic thinking aimed at identifying future business opportunities and business models. What products, services and markets in the future provide opportunities, development and success? What risks and circumstances are affecting movement between now and then? What skills and abilities are needed in future operations? These issues and considerations, among more, do we focus on in this module.

Matts Kärreman - Leading Impact modulansvarigMatts Kärreman, Associate Professor of Corporate Governance and Strategic Management at the School of Economics and Management, Lund University. At Lund University he leads and has led several research programs and projects in collaboration with industry on matters regarding governance, strategy and management.

 


Module 6: Strategies for Sustainability

Navigating in a dynamic world

At the ”Strategies for Sustainability” Module we work with the growing number of challenges associated with “sustainability”. Being a multifaceted and nowadays very broad concept, we discuss strategy choices involving both risk and cost minimization strategies, related to compliance, regulation and ethics, as well as innovation of sustainable products and services. The latter typically faces higher degrees of uncertainty and requires more of a holistic approach compared to “traditional” innovation and strategic investment decisions. We cover all three of the typical sustainability dimensions, ie ecological, economic and social.

Thomas is a research leader at Sparbanken Skåne’s Centre for Sustainable Enterprising and leads several research programmes and projects in close proximity to industry on sustainability and strategic change following societal shifts in relation to technology breakthroughs, globalization, compliance, deregulation and more.

 


Module 7: Marketing

Building and reaching markets

During this module we will discuss and apply various marketing tools/models/perspectives. We will discuss these not in a vacuum, but in different contexts framed as relevant and contemporary marketing-related challenges. I.e., the starting points for our discussions will be common marketing and business challenges. Our job is then to identify, select and apply marketingvtools/models/perspectives to overcome these challenges.

Jörgen Adolfsson, Leading Impact modulansvarigJörgen Adolfsson, Lecturer at the Sten K Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship at Lund University School of Economics and Management. Jörgen has been teaching marketing, strategy, and organizational development for over twenty years. The bulk of Jörgen’s time, however, has been and is spent as a practitioner. He has founded several companies and held several positions as marketing manager.

 


Module 8: Creating Financial Value an external perspective 

Understanding and analyzing the business

Creating value, in financial terms, is one of the most prioritized objectives for all businesses. An understanding of how financial relationships interact and contribute to how the owner is prepared to invest in their businesses is therefore central to modern leadership. We discuss concepts like Profit and loss statement, Balance sheet and Cash flow statement and crucial components to be observant on in a dynamic business environment. And yes – it means that understanding essential concepts of accounting is necessary – definitions and models will be in focus. It will furthermore help us conducting financial analysis to investigate the financial help of a/any company!

Module 9: Management control – an internal perspective

Controlling what´s important

In this module, we focus on how to manage your activities and controlling what is important. Furthermore, we also turn our attention to the ability to translate these relationships to effective control instruments. How to use different approaches to management control and performance management is discussed and assessed, both concerning strategic goals and other issues such as ethics or sustainability. To complete this module, we will present the variety of different calculation models – necessary to impose pricing models and effective cost controlling.

Module 10: Organization

Managing people and learning

In this module we will discuss organizing and managing work in relation to the political frame, the HR frame and learning in organisations. During the module we will take a closer look at humans, human interactions and micro-politics in organizations. From there we will specifically discuss learning in organisations and explore questions such as: Are we supporting learning in our organization? What hinders and what supports learning to prosper in our organization? To what extent do we want to be a learning organization? What can be developed?
